That was also told to me by company personnel. Yes, the Swede is a great round, but the Howa platform for some reason has never been a great shooter for some unknown reason. Some like factory ammo in the Creedmoor, but a handloader has Lapua 260 brass options, plenty ammo, and one can always use brass in 243, 708, or 308 w/o any trouble in a pinch.

A 260 is what most are changing to by free choice over on snipershide dot com. When one looks at a rounds popularity, why would more consumers support a round when the industry drops the ball? If the government banned military rounds here like the 308, then something would take it's place. If the Varmint model was in either an 8 twist 243 or 6XC, or 260 - I would have a great dual varmint/target rifle that would cross over for deer/hog hunting from a stand. That said Savage has both 260s and 6.5 Creedmoor, but I do believe Wby is a better built action. I like to shoot alot, and perhaps burning up a factory 243 for range work is a good option vs. The 7/08 is very close, but its a tad more recoil. I for one, if burning the powder in a Mag case, want a 7mm for reach, or a 338 for power (Large Bear or African Game). I am a 6.5 nut and the bore life is better than the 243, and it gives you enough bullet to punch Elk at a reasonable distance. Sure a 243 will kill alot of game, with good bullets thru vitals. I NORMALLY shoot within 400 yds, mostly half or even a quarter that distance. If I wanted 1000 yd reach, I can do it with a 7 Mag, and good bullets. If I NEEDED more power, I'd jump straight to the 338 WM. Wayne Van Zwoll dumped an Elk over 600 yds w/a 6.5 Creedmoor. me have no interest in a 308, more recoil than needed to do a job.
